The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous help many on their journey to recovery from the disease of chemical dependency and is often the type of program that assists many to become and stay sober who have failed to do so in the past. This program and the rules and environment of Abbe’s Sanctuary can help women, among those of which who have been unsuccessful and/or who have relapsed in the past.
At Abbe’s Sanctuary we believe that early recovery epitomizes transition. This should be a process that is not painful. This environment allows women to learn and help one another in a safe environment. Entering a halfway house or transitional living house often carries with it certain ideas of which many women are afraid. At Abbe’s Sanctuary we work hard to remove this fear and help women to realize the benefits to transitioning back into “normal” life in a safe environment which understands what they have been through, what they are going through, and what they face in the future.
A woman may have just gotten to a point where they are able to admit to themselves that they have an addiction to drugs and/or alcohol as well as the considerable social stigma associated with alcoholism and drug addiction. Nevertheless, continued structure and close support are critical to this success and overall well being. Abbe’s Sanctuary can be the answer that many women and/or their families have been looking for in order to stay sober and transition back into the “normal” societal structure.
We believe that all individuals in sobriety have been afforded a chance for a miraculous life: one that is peaceful, joyful, and rich. The environment of Abbe’s Sanctuary extends this philosophy to clients in early sobriety, affirming that even with the challenges of daily life we can live fully and freely one day a time.
